Children’s Art Festival 2009
Come celebrate Art City Days as children of all ages gather on the lawn of the Springville Art Museum for the annual Children’s Art Festival this Friday, June 12, 2009. Last year, over 2,500 people attended the event which has become a community tradition. Parents and children are invited to spend the day visiting artist booths, watching great entertainment, and eating delicious food.
The artist booths will include: artist trading cards, clothespin bugs, creative rubbings, extended pictures, face painting, garden sculpture, Indian wish necklaces, kites, leather stamping, marble pain, Mexican flowers, origami hats, paper plate visors, pendants, Picasso fish, pinwheels, pointillism, printmaking, and sidewalk chalk.
Entertainment will include music, dancing, puppeteers, and a mime. Also, throughout the event, storytellers will entertain children with creative tales at the storyteller booth.
The SMA Art Royalty will be operating a concessions stand during the festival, selling food items such as hot dogs, chips, cookies, popcorn, snowcones, soda and water. Proceeds will benefit the Springville Museum of Art.
One unfortunate change is that the popular clay booth will not be held this year, due to a lack of sponsorship. In its place, two additional booths have been opened to provide more opportunities for the children.
Due to the large crowds, and because security is a growing concern, parents are reminded to carefully watch their own children and keep them close.
This event is successful from year to year because of the large number of volunteers who turn out to help run the booths. The Museum is always looking for more volunteers, and welcomes community members who are interested to show up that day to receive a volunteer assignment. Interested persons are invited to come to the volunteer check-in booth (located near the Museum parking lot) at any time during the day, from 8:30 in the morning to the end of the event in the afternoon.
The Children’s Art Festival is only possible through the generous contributions of the sponsors. Special thanks go to the Springville Arts Commission, Kiwanis Club, ICP, Crayola, and numerous local donors.
The Children’s Art Festival is on Friday, June 12 from 10am to 2pm. This event is free and open to the public.
