History

The Springville Fire and Rescue department dates back to the year of 1889 when firefighters banded together with their neighbors and used bucket brigades to fight fires in the city. In 1910, Mayor L.D. Deal organized the fire department with 17 men who used a hand-pulled hose card with 1, 000 feet of hose. In 1912, the hose cart was pulled by a horse. Chief Phill Whitney led the Fire department and the Ambulance Company (“Savers”) until he passed away in 2009.  Station 41 & 42 were constructed in 2009. Station 41 is located at 75 W. Center Street. Station 42 is located at 420 South Canyon Road.

Chief Clinton was hired in 2010 and was tasked with three main objectives:

Combining the fire department and the ambulance company.  in 2011 Springville was dual role fire department changing their name to  “Springville fire & Rescue”
Transitioning the running of the fire department from the Volunteer “Firefighter Association” to the Fire Chief, until 2010 the Firefighter Association (Volunteers) was responsible for the operation of the fire department including training and hiring practices.
Develop professional standards into the day to day operations of the fire dept.

During Chief Clinton’s tenure the city purchased 1 new fire Engine (E42), four Ambulances, and a 100’ Aerial Ladder (Quint).

Programs adopted by the department in addition to standard firefighter training were, Officer Development, with an emphasis on the Incident Command System. Engineer Training, Ice Rescue, and upgrading the EMS delivery to the Paramedic level.  In 2022 Springville transition from a “volunteer” Fire department to a full-time fire department, functioning as a “combination fire dept.”

In 2024 City council approved six full time firefighters on duty 24/7
